Elementary School GATE Programs

Barton Elementary, Garretson Elementary and Norco Elementary offer a GATE Magnet Program. Third through sixth grade classes are self-contained with GATE students.

All other elementary Schools offer GATE identified students clustered classes or clustered interventions. Students are offered differentiated instruction to meet their identified needs. To find out what GATE Program implementation at your school site consists of, please reach out to your school site administrator.

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Testing Information for 25-26 Year

CNUSD is in the process of identifying students for the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program for the 2025-2026 school year. GATE Program services in CNUSD begin in third grade. This year we are testing all 2nd grade students. All families of second grade students who do NOT want their second-grader test for GATE can opt-out of testing. Click here for opt-out information for second grade.

Students in 3rd – 5th grade may be referred for GATE testing. It is highly recommended you have a conversation with your child’s teacher, prior to requesting GATE assessment. If you would like to have your 3rd – 5th grade child assessed for GATE, you MUST complete the registration using the link below no later than October 31, 2024. This assessment is conducted online, and your child will take this assessment on her or her district student device during a session that will be proctored by a teacher.

GATE Assessment Request (for 3rd-5th grade students)

The selection process for the Gifted and Talented Program includes a comprehensive look at each student’s abilities and the results of the NNAT3.  If your child qualifies for the Gifted and Talented Program, you will be notified of your options. Depending on the services chosen, your child may be required to change tracks or change schools to receive all services. GATE testing will be held at your child’s site during specific dates in November and December of 2024, which will be set by the school site. All testing will be concluded by December 6, 2024. Test results will be emailed late December, 2024 or early January, 2025.

If you have additional, specific questions, please request assistance from your child’s teacher, GATE Coordinator at your school or the GATE office at (951) 736-5148.
